Choosing the Right Pillow Insert Size
Measure your empty pillow cover from seam to seam, without the old insert inside.
For a full, designer-style appearance:
- For most rectangle covers, choose an insert 1 inch larger in both dimensions.
- When both cover dimensions are 18 inches or larger, choose an insert 2 inches larger in both dimensions.
- For long lumbar covers, sizing up 1 inch in both dimensions is usually enough. Oversizing a long pillow too aggressively can make it feel overly tight or rigid.
For example, pair a 12 x 20 pillow cover with a 13 x 21 down feather pillow insert for a full, tailored look. The larger insert helps fill the corners and reduces loose fabric and wrinkles.

What to Expect
