The day is approaching quickly and it’s only a matter of time before pillows take over the streets and an all out war ensues. Save the date for Saturday, April 7 and start gathering your bolsters, throws, and bed pillows of every shape and size because the world’s most epic pillow fight is just around the corner. That’s right, International Pillow Fight Day is happening and it’s almost time for the feathers to start flying. Bring your best friends or your worst enemies and get ready for an afternoon filled with stuffing, shrieks, and all out battling! 

2008 marked the beginning of ever-popular flash mobs. You remember them: choirs of hundreds would appear in crowded malls to serenade afternoon shoppers, dance teams would take over subway stations during rush hour, and actors would put on their best “statue appearances” to freeze in busy public squares. The trend was contagious and social media fueled the excitement. There was something about the spontaneity that brought so many together and made days brighter and it was only a matter of time before pillows joined in on the trend. Flash mob pillow fights were originally inspired by the popular film “Fight Club” and soon, Pillow Fight Clubs starting popping up all over the world.

As with all new things, the clubs were small at first but continued to grow as the concept caught on. Suddenly, the clubs were appearing in bigger cities such as San Francisco, London, and NYC. People from all backgrounds would gather for their city’s Pillow Fight Clubs as a way to meet others and engage in some friendly fun and competition. Then, in March of 2008, twenty-five cities came together to host the world’s first-ever official pillow fight flash mob, thus marking the inaugural International Pillow Fight Day. The exciting battle continued to gain momentum, and this year will celebrate its 10th anniversary.
