9 Ways to Freshen Your Home for Spring

Mar 20th 2019

Spring has sprung! Have the warmer temperatures reached your own home state yet? Or are you still experiencing the chilling effects of Old Man Winter? Whatever your current weather situation may be, there's no arguing with the fact that the spring season officially made its debut today ... and we couldn't be more excited to welcome the new season of blooming flowers, new life, and undeniable beauty. Today, we're sharing twelve easy ways to freshen your home for spring that won't break the bank!

1) Add Some Life with Plants
Implementing plants into your home decor (both indoors and outdoors) can go a long way in creating a nice pop of life. Use this new month as a launching pad for adding plants to your home. Whether it's a bouquet of local and fresh flowers added to the center of your table, succulents added to a window sill, or a bolder plant step toward a large house plant added to your living room, you'll be surprised how even a few live-plant choices add a nice, spring-themed feel to your home's living areas.

2) Declutter!
We shared a handful of tips last week on maintaining an orderly home in 2019, but one way to maintain an organized home throughout the entire year is to dedicate time to decluttering. Why not use the start of every season as a signal to create space for a decluttering day? Spend one afternoon going room by room to quickly declutter. Donate, throw away, and organize until your hearts content!

3) Let the Air In
As long as pollen and allergy season are not plaguing you quite yet, fling back the curtains, open the blinds, pull open your windows, and let that fresh air in! Be sure to turn off the heat before you do this (and maybe wait until it's at least a bit warmer outside!). There's something about letting fresh air into the home that airs it out in ways that no amount of burning candles, diffused oils, or room sprays can do.

4) Light Up Your Outdoors
It may still be a few months before you can enjoy warmer spring evenings, but go ahead and prepare your outdoor spaces for all of the nights spent outdoors that are to come. Thing string lights, lanterns, candles, and all the soft lighting approaches you can. Can't wait to break it in? Add a fire pit to the middle and you'll be set for many-a-nights spent enjoying your outdoor spaces.

5) Add New Pillows or Change Out Your Pillow Covers
We're clearly big pillow lovers around here, and fully believe a pillow (or five) can completely transform a place in your home! Use this new season as an excuse to change out your decor pillows and change things up a bit for the warmer months to come. Think bright, light, and airy colors, prints, and messaging!

6) Touch Up Your Trim
Unless you're crawling around on your hands and knees cleaning baseboards, the trim in your home is probably one of the most often-forgotten design elements that keeps your home looking bright, clean, and crisp. Take time this spring to touch up the trim work throughout your home. You'll be surprised at what nice fresh-coat of crisp-white paint can do!

7) Spruce Up Your Front Porch
While winter months seem to encouraged closed doors and drawn curtains, something about the arrival of spring makes us want to throw open our front doors and invite the world in. Why not spruce up your front porch to reflect your thoughts? Just like our other tips, this little facelift does not need to coincide with bank-breaking choices. Simple changes like a new wreath, a fresh doormat, and new chair cushions will add just enough pizzazz to shake off the winter blues. You may even be one of the few lucky ones who is now beyond those freezing night-time temperatures. If that's the case, take advantage of your lucky stars and add some life with fresh plants!

8) Get Rid of the Heavy Throws
Colder weather calls for all of the chunky, heavy throws and patterns. While perfect for creating a hygge-focused home, these choices just don't work for the light airiness that comes along with spring. Go ahead and store those wintery blankets and bring out lighter, less heavy choices. Think soft waffle knits, gauzy lightweights and lighter olor palettes and designs.

9) Add A New Rug
We love a statement rug around here, and while we don't recommend new rugs every season (remember: we're trying to save your wallet here!), we do enjoy swapping out heavier, darker, and thicker rugs with lighter options during the warmer months. This does not mean you need to dispose of your current rug, rather store it for the next season (great tips for storing your rug HERE).
