20 Ways to Use Leftover Fabric

Have you ever made a pillow cover and wondered what to do with the leftover fabric? I always end up with lots of leftovers, since I tend to over-estimate the amount needed. I hate throwing away perfectly nice fabric, but I don’t have the space to just store a bunch of leftover pieces. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of my favorite ways to use leftover fabric.  Happy Crafting!

  • Make dollhouse blankets, rugs, curtains, or tiny pillows (filled with pieces of cotton ball).

  • Fill your drawers and closets with sachets (fill with lavender or other dried herbs).

  • Make a removable book cover or a permanent notebook cover.

  • Cut cardboard and cover to make a case for your Kindle or iPad.

  • Ditch the gift bag and make a wine cover for a doubly sweet gift.

  • Make a patchwork blanket.

  • Frame the fabric as art, or use it as matting in a frame.

  • Cover a shoebox to create pretty storage.scrap fabric

  • Add some ribbon to make a pretty bookmark.

  • Grab some velcro to make a sealable pencil pouch.

  • Create your own hot pads or coasters.

  • Sew (or glue) a large strip to half of an elastic headband to show off your own style.

  • Wrap around cheap flipflops and tie around your ankle for a unique sandal.

  • Create a short curtain valance out of hanging fabric strips.

  • Grab some rice and essential oil to make your own hand warmers or heating pads.

  • Stuff with lots of tiny “unusable” pieces to make a pin cushion.

  • Glue strips onto washcloths and hand towels to personalize your bathroom.

  • Braid long strips and tie together for a hip necklace.

  • Tie around a foam ring to make your own wreath (for any time of year).

  • Make a small pillow for a child’s room, doll cradle, or pet bed.
