Finally, spring weather seems like it's here to stick around and we are ready to celebrate with a fresh squeezed lemonade while enjoying some outdoor spaces. While porches and decks are a perfect locations to both entertain and relax, it's important to ensure your outdoor pillows are up for the challenge of remaining solid and in tact for seasons to come. Today, we're putting our outdoor pillow knowledge on the table and sharing a few tips for choosing outdoor pillows and cushions.
First, decide on a color scheme and decor theme that will remain constant in the sea of ever-changing design trends. Just because something may be trendy this season may not mean it will remain so in the coming years. Choose colors and patterns that you're drawn to despite their popularity and you'll be sure to appreciate them for seasons to come!
Next, let your natural surroundings be your guide. Is your outdoor space overlooking a nice wooded area? Choose natural materials like wicker and wood and neutral colors with pops of earthy tones to compliment the beauty of the outdoors. Does your back deck overlook a home pool? A bright tropical theme with natural hibiscus trees as accents might be a good option! Perhaps your outdoor area is smaller and more intimate, like a condo or apartment porch? Bring on all the lights! Adding string lights and neutral colors can lighten up the space and trick the eyes into thinking it's larger than it is. When deciding on outdoor pillows to compliment your natural surroundings, be sure to use a variety of sizes and shapes to create dimension!

Third, be sure to choose outdoor pillows that are durable and functional. While it's sometimes easier to choose the squishiest or most comfortable looking pillow, pouf, or cushion, be sure to put some time and research into choose materials that will hold up well with changing weather and sun. Typically, this would be a polyester, non-woven pillow.

Finally, don't be scared to TAKE RISKS. Add some floor cushions or outdoor pillow boxes for some lower-ground seating, string up some funky shaped lights, add a brilliantly colored plant with an unexpected pop of color. Small risks can add a spark of inviting life.
