Upon first glance, pillows are merely just… pillows. A soft place to rest your head at night, a pretty pop of color in your living room, or a nice lumbar support on your porch swing… a pillow. All of these are excellent ways to use pillows, but we also believe each pillow is so much more than its singular use. In fact, we go as far as to say that every pillow carries its own unique, individualized personality and it's all found within its pillow fill.

Now wait a minute, before you dismiss us as “crazy pillow people,” hear us out! We’ve all heard the saying,“it’s what’s on the inside that truly counts,” and many of us could agree on the accuracy behind this statement when applied to humans. However, we also find this popular quote to be completely accurate when applied to pillows. When you look beyond each pillow’s outside appearance or use and into the inside — the filing — you get a glimpse into who that particular pillow is and its individual personalty is reveled.Is it supportive? Firm? Soft? Comforting? Looking to the fill — the inside —of each pillow answers questions its outside appearance cannot, and its true personality is revealed!


Unfortunately, much like with humans, not all personalities “click” and we’ve found that no single fill-type works for everyone. What works great for the interior designer may not work well for the man looking for a good night’s rest: we all have different needs, desires, and inclinations for our pillow personalities.

At the end of the day, it will boil down to your own personal preferences, be it synthetic down, down/feather, polyester, or eco-friendly. To make it a little easier to decipher which personality meshes well with yours, we’re breaking down each type to (hopefully) help you choose the best pillow fill for you:

PILLOW FILL TYPES

Down Alternative Filled Pillows:
Strong, soft, and excellent staying power, our synthetic down fill, made with fiber that is nearly 1/10 of the "normal polyester" fill fibers, provides the "staying power" of a down pillow BUT carries all the benefits of a hypo-allergenic pillow. Allergies got you down? This pillow fill alternative is often known as "synthetic down” and is a very popular non-allergenic down or feather fill option

Down Feather Filled ( real goose down and duck feathers )
This is the Type A, put together-all-the-time, beautiful and luxurious choice. It’s also often the top pick for designers or those looking for an extra cozy, lofty bed pillow. Not only are our down filled pillows filled with real goose down and duck feathers, but they’re also comfortable and excellent at holding their shape. We offer a 10/90, 25/75, and 50/50 option, with the first number representing down and the second number representing feathers. As the down content goes up, the form gets smoother, lighter, and warmer. Make note though: these forms are not recommended for someone who is allergic to feathers! Additionally, down/feather pillows are lofty — not firm—and are designed to be shaped.

100% Polyester Filled
Simple, common, and laid back. Our polyester filling is the most commonly used pillow filling. It’s lightweight, easy to clean and typically a little less expensive. This option has the greatest density of any fiber we use AND is an excellent choice for anyone with allergies as it is hypo-allergenic. This fill is commonly used in both indoor and outdoor applications.

100% Recycled Eco-Friendly Fiber Filled
Love taking care of our earth and have some “flower child” tendencies? Our eco-friendly green fill is made completely from recycled plastic bottles and may be the perfect match. This is the ultimate option for making Earth-friendly pillows for your home or office… to top it all off, it’s hypoallergenic, making it a great choice for just about anyone.

A few other important things to note when choosing the best “pillow personality” for you:

•Do you have allergies?
Avoid down/feather fills.

•Do you want to give pillows a “karate chop” look?
Stick with synthetic down or down/feather fills.

•Do you want a firm look or feel?
Select polyester or eco-friendly fills.

•Do you want to use it outdoors?
Choose a polyester fill (with non-woven outer shell), aka poly non-woven.

•Do want an earth-friendly pillow to use outdoors?
Choose an eco-friendly non-woven form (note that we require a minimum of 20 per size at this time).
