Styling Bed Pillows

Apr 11th 2018

While our beds are primarily used for catching up on some nightly zzz’s, during the day we love styling them into something to be envied by Sleeping Beauty herself. The layering of blankets and sheets, the textures, the colors, and - of course - the pillows all play a part in styling your bed into a magazine-worthy place of rest and today we’re outlining a handful of our favorite ways to style your bed pillows:

For the Simplistic One:
A fan of the minimalist look? Simply stack your bed pillows on top of one another. Either leave as is or pull your comforter over the tops of the pillows and tuck around the backs. Simple, easy, quick, and minimalistic.

For the Slightly More Than Simple One:
You’re a minimalist, but you still like a little pizazz. Start with the pillows stacked on top of one another, but add two to three throw pillows or sham-covered pillows in front to create a little something extra. Still simple, still easy, but a little more than your super minimalist friend.

For the Glamorous One:
The life of luxury and plush pillows is your jam. You like the layering, the stacking, and all the pillows you can get… you’re considered The Glamorous One. This is a great option for those without a headboard or a shorter headboard. For this one, you’ll need two (queen size) or three (king size) “European style” square pillows. Begin by propping these against your “backboard” (be it a wall or headboard), then add your fancier sham-covered pillows as the second layer. For the final step, add a pair of decorative down or synthetic throw pillows to the front. Want even more glam? Add a bolster or a smaller, round pillow to take up the front and center attention.

For the One Who Likes All the Extra Things:
The minimalist look is so far on the opposite end of the spectrum from you, it isn’t even funny! You’re all about the pillows, even more than your Glamorous friend outlined above. For this one, you’ll start with two to three European sized pillows (depending on whether you have a queen or king-sized bed) lined up against the back of your headboard. Then add your sham-covered pillows… we recommend three total for king-sized and two for queen sized). Next, add another layer of two standard-sized bed pillows with a coordinating color scheme cover. Finally, layer three to five throw pillows in the front. We like to mix and match patterns and textures here to add a little “somethin’ somethin’” extra.
